Cake Wins Revolution Award For Online PR

Prince and a Frog

Cake has been awarded one of the digital marketing industry’s top awards for their global social media campaign around The Prince’s Rainforests Project. The Revolution Awards – which recognise innovation in the digital world – celebrated the success of Cake’s work for HRH Prince Charles’ campaign to fight against deforestation.

Cake was engaged by Clarence House to launch HRH’s campaign in advance of Copenhagen 2009, simultaneously in the UK and the US. A first-rate social media campaign was implemented which saw – amongst other activity – the world’s first ever web simulcast on MySpace and YouTube by HRH. In the five days after campaign launch, the combined US & UK social and traditional media outreach resulted in 642,781 YouTube views and over 2 million views on UK national news sites. A co-ordinated Twitter explosion ensued, with an estimated reach of 20 million tweets, driving over 15,000 people per week to the campaign website. Not only did the campaign reach its original aim of getting deforestation on the agenda at Copenhagen, but HRH himself ended up becoming the summit’s keynote speaker and delivering a speech on the matter.

Mike Mathieson, CEO of Cake commented: “We’re delighted to have been recognised for our innovative work in the online space. What we’re most proud of is the way in which our UK and US offices worked in tandem to create such an effective global digital campaign. Social media strategy has been a fundamental part of Cake since we started over 10 years ago, and as the global media landscape continues to shift and change, I’m confident that we can remain at the forefront of social media expertise.”
