'Are you Sociable Enough?' asks Elie Khairallah, Creative Director Euro RSCG Arabia
All media can be described as social; it always has been and will continue to be so. By 2009, social media reached a pinnacle. Apple stated 1 billion applications had been downloaded for the iphone, doubling its number in just three months. Reuters reported Facebook, which sited 500 million dollars in 2009 revenues, is expecting to make million of dollars in sales within the next half- decade. Even political organisations have jumped on the bandwagon with Iran's opposition using Twitter and Facebook to coordinate activities and be heard.
For clients, social media is the "it" place to see and be seen, but its venue is still a bit of mystery. This type of media will be essential for companies when planning their communication strategies. What's more, in the near future, customers will expect every brand and company to be part of the social media world. Dialogue, which will be a key word, will be another necessity for businesses. Finding the correct online monitoring tool will also become increasingly important. In the future, we will find website users editing and uploading websites and keeping them up-to-date, leaving website creators with a minimal role.
The challenges lies in finding the good stuff and knowing how to fit it in well. Euro RSCG was featured in the "Guinness book of records" for its Evian "Rollerbabies" campaign. With 45 million hits, it became the most downloaded commercial in history. Additionally, our "Tck Tck Tck" campaign was described as a historical highlight at the Cannes Festival by Phil Thomas, CEO of Cannes Lions. Over 15 million people supported the digital-based campaign for Koffi Annan's climate project, not to mention the digital music petition we made, which has logged 1 million downloads to date.
"For Clients, social media is the it place to see and be seen, but its venue is still a bit of a mystery". "One Young World", nicknamed "Young Davos" by some media outlets, is the world's first global youth leadership summit, founded by David Jones, global CEO of Havas Worldwide, and Kate Robertson, Euro RSCG UK Group Chairman, bringing together several hundred delegates, age 25 and below, from the world's 192 countries. "One Young World" combines the social power of the Internet with the energy and ideas of global youth to adress today's most challenging issues.
One last thought. If you don't blog, you'd better start soon in order to catch up with the trend and fill your basket with fresh ideas and exposure, all of which will keep you connected to the digital world where all the "netizens" live, share, communicate and breed.
